MIT(マサチューセッツ工科大学)の D-labを訪ねた。2002年に始まったコースだそうだ。第三世界への適正技術支援をMIT大学院生が行う国際協力型のサービスラーニングとして行っている。機械、化学など専門の違う工学系の学生が参加し、大学院卒業に必要な単位取得と海外での活動を経験できることが魅力だ。
We visited D-lab was founded in 2002 at the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). It is performed as a service-learning of international cooperation MIT graduate students carried out using appropriate technology support to the third world.
The graduate students of machinery and chemical etc. are participated. It is possible to experience the activities overseas and credits needed to graduate school graduation are attractive.
案内してくれた大学院生のLさんは、自分の専門分野の研究では現実と乖離した研究ばかりしているので、実社会との繋がりを持ちたくてこのコースを選択したそうだ。
Ms. L helped us to guide the D-lab, she chosen this course, because she wanted to have a connection with the real world, but she has deviated from reality in her research field of specialization.
第三世界で普及しており人力で最もパワーが出しやすいことから自転車を改良した道具が多い。豆向き機、洗濯機、ミキサー、粉ひき機などこれまで開発した物が展示されている。
Tool with improved bicycle are many because it is easily put out power from human action and bicycle has been popular in the third world. Beans facing machine, washing machine, mixer, such as flour grinder are exhibited.
農業廃棄物の炭化と燃料製造もあった。炭化方法はドラム缶を使った一般的な方法だが、細かい炭をキャッサバで作った糊で固めるアイデアが面白い。Bio weste プロジェクトでバイオガス技術の導入も進めているようだ。
There was also fuel production by carbonization of agricultural waste. Carbonization method's general method that uses a drum, but the idea is interesting to solidify glue made with cassava for bind small charcoal. Introduction of biogas technology also seems to have advanced in Bio waste project.
